It has a touch of an English shirt, a hint of something found at a French flea market, and that naive touch that appears exactly where it needs to. The gathered collar and red piping do the rest: two small details that completely transform a plaid shirt.

It works almost instinctively with denim. It also works with chocolate or burgundy corduroy, or with gray men's trousers for a less obvious look. And under a sweater, just the red collar and a cherry or two peek out.
